Brian Wilson Has Entered Conservatorship

Renowned musician Brian Wilson, a founding member of the Beach Boys, has recently been placed under conservatorship, as decreed by a judge. Leading the conservatorship are his longtime publicist and manager, Jean Sievers, in conjunction with his trusted business manager, LeeAnn Hard.

The need for conservatorship arose following the passing of Wilson’s wife and manager, Melinda, earlier this year. At 81 years old, Wilson faces the challenges of dementia, rendering him incapable of managing his own affairs and daily care without assistance.

In a statement released by the Wilson family, it was affirmed that Brian, along with the children residing at home, will be well looked after by the existing household team. The family emphasized Wilson’s continued ability to enjoy time with loved ones, pursue ongoing projects, and engage in activities of his choosing, ensuring his quality of life remains intact.

The decision for conservatorship was formally granted by Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Gus T. May, recognizing Wilson’s condition as a “major neurocognitive disorder.” Additionally, at the request of Wilson’s two eldest daughters, Carnie Wilson Bonfiglio and Wendy Wilson Knutson, provisions were made to keep them informed about their father’s health and well-being.

While the conservatorship primarily addresses Wilson’s personal and medical needs, Sievers underscored that his physical health remains stable, enabling him to maintain a fulfilling and active lifestyle. As co-conservators, Sievers and Hard are dedicated to ensuring Wilson’s daily living requirements are met, allowing him to navigate his health challenges with dignity and support.

Through this arrangement, Wilson’s family and close associates aim to provide him with the necessary care and assistance while preserving his autonomy and involvement in his passions and projects.
