He Talked Candidly About His Mental Health On Social Media
Queen guitarist Brian May just opened up about the depression that “engulfed” him during Christmas. In an Instagram post, he revealed that there’s something about the holiday season that “paralyses” him. And for most of Christmas, he didn’t want “to show my face because my face was grim.”
He continues, “Depression, hopelessness, fear … I get engulfed. Is it logical ? No. Should I be grateful for my life and therefore NOT depressed? Yes. But none of that makes any difference when you look up and the colours have gone out of the world.”
He also adds that he’s “wrenching myself back into ‘normality’ – starting with some biking and stretching and hot and cold showering.” He even gave an update on his Vegenuary quest. He then ended the message with “This is a doddle !! Ha ha !! Well, we shall see ! Happy Friday folks … we’ll soon be out of this murky Sargasso Sea ! Bri”
One of the things that helped him bounce back was a gift from Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott – a painting of May’s hero Jimi Hendrix who reminds him “to keep reaching for the stars.” Def Leppard’s verified Instagram account also responded with “We love ya Bri !! Better days ahead.”
