Jon Bon Jovi recently opened up about the uncertainty surrounding his band’s future tours, citing his health as the decisive factor determining when, or if, he’ll hit the road again.
In an interview with Mix 104.1 Boston, the singer expressed his ambivalence about embarking on another tour anytime soon. “I don’t know about a tour,” he admitted. “It is my desire to do a tour next year, but I’m just still recovering from a major surgery.”
Back in 2022, Bon Jovi underwent vocal cord medialization surgery to address issues with his voice. His latest endeavor, the album Forever, is slated for release on June 7, marking a significant milestone in his comeback journey.
Despite making progress in his recovery and being able to work on the album at his own pace, Bon Jovi is striving to regain the stamina required for touring. “While I’m making good progress and managed to record a song a day for the album, my ultimate goal is to perform for two-and-a-half hours every night, four nights a week, for months on end,” he shared, emphasizing his determination to achieve this objective.
Bon Jovi’s Thoughts on Following Suit
In the same interview, Bon Jovi was asked about the possibility of undertaking a residency similar to U2’s groundbreaking stint at the Sphere. Reflecting on the experience of attending the opening night, he described it as “breathtaking” but expressed reservations about replicating such a feat himself.
“As a huge U2 fan, I was blown away by what they accomplished,” Bon Jovi confessed. “But I was like, ‘Wow, how do I even wrap my arms around this? And how much time would it take to develop all this, to capture something that would be worthy that could follow this incredible production?'”
Although he was approached to follow in U2’s footsteps, Bon Jovi ultimately decided against it. “I thought about it. I have thought about it. Because I was asked to do it second to them. And Bono and I have a lot of the same physical traits, vocally,” he explained.
