Rump-A-Pum-Pum
Everything sounds better when Bob Seger is singing it, which is why we decided to share this awesome “Little Drummer Boy” performance of his from 2011 to kick off the best month of the year. Bob’s calming voice and presence really do the iconic Christmas song justice with the natural ease and beautiful tone that he will always be well known for.
“Rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum, shall I play for you, pa-rum pum pum pum, on my drum?”
Originally a Czech song, “Little Drummer Boy” was translated in 1941 by singer Katherine Davis, Harry Simeone, and Henry Onorati and eventually become one of the Top 40 Christmas songs of all time. Although several artists have covered this hauntingly brilliant holiday tune, we really love the wonderful subtly and deep tone that Bob brings to this performance.
Interesting Fact: This song was the basis of an animated TV special in 1968, also called Little Drummer Boy. It was about an orphaned child who goes on a quest to find his camel, which he discovers when he finds the Three Wise Men. This TV special never became a holiday classic like Frosty The Snowman or Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer.
Bob could literally sing our grocery list or cell phone bill and make it sound like a premeditated melody with added class, which is why this may just be one of our favorite covers of this song. Enjoy this beautiful performance and share with your loved ones!
