Bob Dylan’s “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” Harmonica Solo Is Just What You Need Today
Bob Dylan and Tom Petty
The peaceful and vivid sounds of Bob Dylan’s harmonica solo before the iconic hit “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” will bring you out of whatever darkness your feeling today, we promise. And what could make this even more special? Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers helping Bob along maybe? Yeah, we think so…
“Mama, take this badge off of me, I can’t use it anymore. It’s gettin’ dark, too dark to see, I feel like I’m knockin’ on heaven’s door…”
Although we love Guns N’ Roses for trying to cover this hopeful ballad, no one can do it like Bob. At one point you can even see Bob reach out his arm to hold Tom back because he feels completely taken by the beautiful solo he performs and does not want the magic to end, graciously Tom understands and gives the great Bob Dylan the distance he deserves.
Interesting Fact: Dylan wrote the song for the 1973 western film, Pat Garrett And Billy The Kid. It plays while Sheriff Colin Baker is dying from his gunshot wounds. Dylan cameos in the movie as the character, Alias.
Although were not super jazzed about Tom’s higher pitched voice mixing with Bob’s signature vocals, it is awesome to see two greats have a good time performing and put on an amazing show.

Mama, take this badge off of me
I can’t use it anymore
It’s gettin’ dark, too dark to see
I feel like I’m knockin’ on heaven’s door
Knock, knock, knockin’ on heaven’s door
Knock, knock, knockin’ on heaven’s door
Knock, knock, knockin’ on heaven’s door
Knock, knock, knockin’ on heaven’s door
Mama, put my guns in the ground
I can’t shoot them anymore
That long black cloud is comin’ down
I feel like I’m knockin’ on heaven’s door
Knock, knock, knockin’ on heaven’s door
Knock, knock, knockin’ on heaven’s door
Knock, knock, knockin’ on heaven’s door
Knock, knock, knockin’ on heaven’s door
