Bob Dylan Involved In Biopic To Ensure Accuracy

Bob Dylan gave the actor Timothée Chalamet, who will star as him, notes for the upcoming biopic A Complete Unknown.

The film is based on the folk singer’s life. During the guest appearance of the director James Mangold on the podcast Happy Sad Confused, he shared the few days he spent with Dylan saying:

“I’ve spent several wonderfully charming days in his [Bob Dylan] company, just one-on-one, talking to him. I have a script that’s personally annotated by him and treasured by me.”

Mangold also shared that Dylan knew about his movies. He added:

“He loves movies. The first time I sat down with Bob, one of the first things he said to me was, ‘I love ‘Cop Land.’”

In 2020, the biopic was initially titled Going Electric, but the production was delayed due to the pandemic. While last fall, Chalamet talked to Variety about his role. He said:

“I haven’t stopped preparing, which has been one of the greatest gifts for me. It’s been a wonderful experience getting to dive into that world, whether we get to make it or not. But without giving anything away — because I don’t want to beat anyone to the punch, and obviously, things have to come together officially — the winds that are blowing are blowing in a very positive direction.”

Chalamet also revealed that he has been working with a vocal coach every day. He told Vogue:

“I’ve been preparing for forever.”

A Complete Unknown will start production in August. Along with Chalamet, the film will also star Benedict Cumberbatch, Elle Fanning, Boyd Holbrook, Monica Barbaro, and Nick Offerman.
