Bob Dylan Claims Sexual Abuse Case Is “fraudulent”

Bob Dylan and his lawyers responded to a lawsuit made against the artist over allegations of sexual abuse calling it “fraudulent.”
“Mr. Dylan may have seemed like an easy mark for the lawyers who filed and hoped to profit off of this fraudulent lawsuit,” the document reads. “They likely assumed he would not be up for the fight and would instead pay extortion to avoid the burden, publicity and expense of defending himself. They could not have been more wrong. Mr. Dylan seeks and will achieve justice, vindication and full accountability.”
Dylan and his legal team clarified in their latest response that they would not pay a nuisance settlement just to make the case go away.
The 80-year-old singer-songwriter was sued last year on August 13 by an anonymous woman, identified in documents as J.C. claims that Dylan (then in his mid-20s) “befriended and established an emotional connection” with her when she was only 12-years old. Dylan was alleged to use drugs and alcohol to sexually abused J.C. and threatened her with physical violence.
Dylan historians quickly question the woman’s time frame as it did not seem possible that the two parties could have been in the same location when the alleged abuse happened.
While J.C. stated that the assaults took place at the Chelsea Hotel in New York City over the course of six weeks between April and May of 1965, numerous documents show that the singer was actually jet-setting between the West Coast and the U.K. during that same period.
Earlier this week, it was reported that J.C. updated the timeline in which the alleged incident took place, amending the allegations to claim that her encounters with Dylan spanned “a period of several months in the spring of 1965”.
“This case – based on plaintiff’s alleged interactions with Bob Dylan more than 56 years ago — is a brazen shakedown masquerading as a lawsuit,” Dylan’s lawyers stated in their new court complaint, reported by Rolling Stone. “It was filed in bad faith for the improper purpose of extracting a huge payout on the threat of negative publicity. The allegation is false, malicious, reckless and defamatory. Mr. Dylan will not be extorted.”
