Billy Joel enthusiasts have recently observed a shift in the Piano Man’s online presence. The phrase “Did I wait too long…” has surfaced as a new background on the acclaimed singer’s Facebook account.

This same phrase is also visible behind his top songs on Spotify and on his X account (formerly Twitter).

This cryptic message has ignited speculation among fans about the potential release of new material. Indeed, the wait for new music from Joel has been quite lengthy. The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer’s last releases were two singles – “All My Life” and “Christmas In Fallujah” – back in 2007. His last full-length studio album of original material, “River of Dreams,” dates back to 1993.

Joel’s recent message is part of his efforts to enhance his presence on social media. According to Stereogum, the Piano Man joined TikTok in December, with his first post featuring concert footage where Joel hinted at new music.

“I have good news, I have bad news,” he shared in the clip. “I’ll give you the bad news first. We don’t have anything new to play for you. The good news is you don’t have to sit through something you have no idea what it is! Although … we got a little something we’re working on you might hear sometime.”

Will Billy Joel Tour in 2024?

Whether or not new material is released, Joel has a busy schedule in 2024. The singer has performances lined up throughout the year, including co-headlining dates with Sting and Stevie Nicks.

Joel is also set to conclude his record-breaking residency at Madison Square Garden in 2024. The final gig, marking his 150th performance at the iconic New York venue, will take place on July 25.
