Darrell Sheets, best known for his long-running role on Storage Wars, has died at the age of 67.

According to a statement from the Lake Havasu City Police Department, Sheets was found dead at his home following reports of a deceased individual. Authorities indicated that the cause of death was an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

“The male was pronounced deceased on scene, and the Lake Havasu City Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit was notified and responded to the scene to assume the investigation,” the department said.

“The body was ultimately turned over to the Mohave County Medical Examiner’s office for further investigation. The male subject has been identified as Darrell Sheets, a 67-year-old resident of Lake Havasu City, and Darrell’s family has been notified,” the statement continued.

TMZ first reported the news.

Health Struggles Behind the Spotlight

Sheets’ passing comes seven years after a serious health crisis in 2019, when he suffered a heart attack and revealed ongoing medical complications. At the time, he shared the news with fans and opened up about his condition in a candid post.

“Well here we go I wasn’t going to say anything, but you all have been the greatest friends and fans. I’ve been very sick for 3 months and two nights ago I had a mild heart attack, found out I have congestive heart failure and a severe issue going on with my lungs,” Sheets wrote, alongside a hospital photo with his then-fiancée, Romney Snyde.

The message offered a rare glimpse into the personal struggles behind his larger-than-life television persona.

‘The Gambler’ and a Reality TV Legacy

Across more than a decade on A&E, Sheets became one of the defining personalities of Storage Wars, appearing in 163 episodes between 2010 and 2023. The series followed professional buyers bidding on abandoned storage units, often uncovering unexpected treasures.

Nicknamed “The Gambler” for his instinct-driven, high-stakes bidding style, Sheets built a reputation for taking risks—and occasionally striking gold. Alongside his son, Brandon Sheets, he famously discovered valuable items, including four Picasso paintings.

In a statement to People, A&E paid tribute to the late star:

“We are saddened by the passing of a beloved member of our ‘Storage Wars’ family, Darrell ‘The Gambler’ Sheets. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”

After stepping away from television, Sheets retired to Arizona, where he ran an antique store, Havasu Show Me Your Junk—remaining, in spirit, a lifelong treasure hunter until the end.
