B.B. King Puts The LOVE In Love Songs

This is quite possibly one of the most beautiful love songs I’ve ever heard. It’s classic, timeless and regal in every way. From B.B. King’s velvety tone to his passion-filled vocals, it all seams together perfectly. Sweetly sung with the perfect accompaniment, this can give you the major “feels.” The recorded version is exemplary but with this live performance, it’s truly remarkable. It makes you just want to close your eyes and listen to his powerful voice.

More than any other musician of the postwar era, King brought the blues from the margins to the mainstream. His influence on a generation of rock and blues guitarists – including Eric Clapton, Mike Bloomfield and Stevie Ray Vaughan – has been inestimable. “We don’t play rock and roll,” he said in 1957. “Our music is blues, straight from the Delta.” Yet without formally crossing into rock and roll, King forged an awareness of blues within the rock realm, particularly in the Sixties and Seventies.

It amazes me how he can put so much life into the lyrics — how the words become extra special the moment he sings it. This musical genius surely knows how to make his audience fall in love with each tune, each melody, each strike of his guitar. He’s incomparable!

The final word belongs to King himself, testifying on the healing quality of the genre he embodies. “I’m trying to get people to see that we are our brother’s keeper,” King has said. “Red, white, black, brown or yellow, rich or poor, we all have the blues.”
