Avery Rocks Some Rush!

What I love about Avery Molek is that at 8 years old, he’s absolutely fearless behind his drum kit! He’s never phased by tackling a song by some of the most prolific drummers in rock music, and if anything the challenge is something he seems to really enjoy. I chalk that up to 50% passion and 50% mom and dad making sure that he always has a great time!

It’s no secret that Avery loves Rush, so it was a tremendous treat when he performed his rendition of ‘Fly By Night’ – and let me just say, I was absolutely floored!

Avery’s Biggest Influences

  • Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan of Avenged Sevenfold
  • Neil Peart of Rush
  • Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater and The Winery Dogs
  • Alex Van Halen of Van Halen

Avery my friend, you’re in some fantastic company! Who knows – maybe one day, kids will add you to their list of influences!

As simple as the drum patterns for ‘Fly By Night’ may sound, Rush drummer Neil Peart is one of the most complex drummers in progressive rock and it shines through even in the simplest of tracks. At 8 years old, it’s clear that Avery is following in Neil’s footsteps in terms of his precision and attention to detail, never shying away from a fill that might be a little complicated but will be worth it in the end!

+ Fly By Night lyrics +

Why try? I know why
The feeling inside me says it’s time I was gone
Clear head, new life ahead
It’s time I was king now — not just one more pawn

Fly by night, away from here
Change my life again
Fly by night, goodbye my dear
My ship isn’t coming and I just can’t pretend

Moon rise, thoughtful eyes
Staring back at me from the window beside
No fright or hindsight
Leaving behind that empty feeling inside

Start a new chapter
Find what I’m after
It’s changing every day
The change of a season
Is enough of a reason
To want to get away
Quiet and pensive
My thoughts apprehensive
The hours drift away
Leaving my homeland
Playing a lone hand
My life begins today
