It’s His Second Public Statement
Alex Van Halen celebrated his own 68th birthday on Sunday with a tribute to his late younger brother Eddie who passed away on October 6, 2020. Alex wrote on Van Halen News Desk, “First birthday without you, Ed. The view from my drum set will never be the same. VH forever! #vanhalenforever.”
It’s Alex’s second public statement following Eddie’s death. Just two days after news of Eddie’s passing broke, Alex shared a short message: “Hey Ed, love you. See you on the other side.”
Meanwhile, Alex was interviewed by Modern Drummer in August 2020 but it was just released last January. He spoke about the band, David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar. Alex said, “[Hagar] has a great rhythmic sense and of course that voice. Dave was much more of a poet.”
“Dave is creative – 90 percent of it is garbage, but that 10 percent is f***ing worth it,” Alex continued.
Alex also went on to talk about streaming platforms and their impact on the music industry.
“There’s nothing left in the music business. It’s a bunch of ones and zeroes,” he noted. “In the old days you’d get a dollar a record, and now you get 50 cents for 275,000 streams. It’s insane. It’s wrong.”
