An Interesting Project
Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson has a pretty busy year ahead. After dropping two new singles and announcing a new band called Envy of None, he has now joined forces with other legendary axeslingers. He teamed up with Metallica’s Kirk Hammett and Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello at a virtual guitar summit. The song is part of a project Morello’s working on.
“I think this is a project that he’s working on with a bunch of different musicians,” Lifeson told UCR. “I don’t really know what the future holds for it, but I really loved doing it.”
Morello sent Lifeson a couple of riffs and told him to “put whatever you want on it – the more the merrier.”
“He was going to give it to Kirk Hammett, and Kirk was going to do the same thing,” Lifeson explained.
They communicated all throughout and traded the work they did. Lifeson heard an early mix of the song and loved it.
“It’s really some fun music,” he teased. “It’s so Tom Morello, his parts. I just smiled the whole way through listening to it. I thought it was really, really cool the way it turned out.”
Morello has always been a huge Rush fan. He campaigned for them to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and in 2015, he appeared alongside Lifeson and bassist Geddy Lee in Future User’s video for “VooDoo”.
