You Gotta Live Large!

“Get A Grip” is the title track of Aerosmith’s 11th studio album which was released on April 20, 1993 under Geffen Records and their last one before they went back to Columbia Records. This one featured guests like Lenny Kravitz and Don Henley and contributors such as Desmond Child, Jim Vallance and Tommy Shaw just to name a few.

Regarding songs that reflect on the band’s history with drug abuse such as “Get a Grip” and “Amazing”, Steven Tyler declared: “We were saying you can point it back to some of those old beliefs about the crossroads and signing up with the devil, that you can look at the drugs as that: It can be fun in the beginning but then it comes time to pay your debt, and if you’re not sharp enough to see that it’s taking you down, then it really will get you.”

This eventually became their bestselling studio album not just in the United States but worldwide. They sold more than 20 million copies and even garnered several awards. It also earned the 1993 Album of the Year from the Metal Edge Readers’ Choice Awards.

Robert Christgau, however, feels on Get a Grip that they are trying many different things on the album and that they are really good at trying something new, like the song “Cryin’” and he gave it their best review since 1980’s Greatest Hits.

It’s amazing how Steven Tyler and the boys can be incredibly awesome whether it’s rock ‘n roll or ballad! Such versatility!
