Axl Rose Helped Them “Finish Off Our Commitment”
In 2016, fans and the rock ‘n roll industry were shocked when frontman Brian Johnson was forced to leave the band halfway through their Rock or Bust Tour because of hearing problems. And then, it was followed by news of Guns N’ Roses singer Axl Rose stepping in for Johnson. Not everyone was happy but after a series of shows, it was clear that Axl Rose could hold his own as the new, albeit temporary, AC/DC lead vocalist.
In a new interview with Total Guitar, guitarist Angus Young has revealed that although any discussion about Axl Rose continuing with the group “never really came up,” he says that “Axl was really very generous, and he helped us out to get through our touring side at a difficult spot. He had contacted us and said he could help if it didn’t interfere with his own commitments of what he was going. … He wanted to come in and try songs that he himself liked, and he was suggesting songs I hadn’t played in a long time.”
He also adds, “I’m definitely grateful that he volunteered, and that had helped us finish off our commitment. But he has his own life.”
AC/DC is set to release their highly anticipated new album “Power Up” on November 13.
