8-Year-Old Girl Plays Rush, Slays Skins On “YYZ”

How On Earth Does She Do It?
At 8 years old, drum phenom Alexey Poblete is a force to be reckoned with the moment she steps behind her drum kit. Absolutely fearless, Alexey slayed the skins on this fantastic cover of Canadian progressive rock band Rush’s ‘YVZ’, a pretty complicated tune known for drummer Neil Peart’s difficult drum fills and flawless timing.
Fun Fact: Alexey’s drum influences include Tony Royster, Jr., John Bonham, and KISS drummer Eric Singer, and she was the 2013 champion of the Hit Like A Girl Drum Contest.
Where most kids her age would have been terrified to even attempt a song of this caliber, Alexey is clearly having a great time rising to the challenge – and rise she does! With that mile wide grin stretched across her face, it’s clear that not only is Alexey fiercely gifted, but she allows herself to enjoy both the process of failing and succeeding that comes with learning a craft and learning it well. If this killer cover of ‘YVZ’ is any indication of what this prodigy is capable of in the future, then we can say with absolute certainy that Alexey Poblete’s got quite a stunning future in the music industry ahead of her!
