White Wing Dove Tour, 1981

It’s always great to hear about your favorite musicians being friends with your other favorite musicians – especially when they cover each others’ work! As early as 1981, Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks has been playing ‘I Need To Know,’ made famous by friend Tom Petty as part of her live routine, a fast paced, gritty tune that works perfectly with Stevie’s voice. When she embarked on a small, 10-date tour in 1981 to celebrate her debut solo album Bella Donna, Stevie’s final performance of the tour was immortalized in an HBO special that featured a high energy, in your face rendition of ‘I Need To Know’ that fans just can’t get over more than 30 years after it happened – it was that amazing!

Fun Fact: Stevie’s White Wing Dove performance remains unreleased in its entirety, although it has been circulating for many years amongst fans as a bootleg.

Gorgeous as ever, Stevie’s seen swanning about in a flowy dress and boots with a giant tambourine in one hand and a mic in the other, tearing through ‘I Need To Know’ like we’ve never heard her sing before; if you weren’t a fan of Stevie before this performance, you were by the end of it!
