Winwood Lovin

Featuring a young and always incredible Steve Winwood, the Spencer Davis Group play hit “Gimme Some Lovin” and share their talent with the world in ’66. Before Steve crossed over into Traffic, at just 17-years-old, the talented singer and guitar player played with brother Muff and friend Spencer Davis as 60’s brit group The Spencer Davis Group.

Interesting Fact: Steve Winwood played a Hammond B-3 organ on this track, which became one of the most recognizable organ riffs in rock. Winwood also wrote the song on the instrument, which explains why it is so prominent in the mix.

As the extremely talented and trained vocalist that he is, Steve was able to complete this recording in just 2 takes after writing out the lyrics in less than a hour. By the end of 1966 and the beginning of 1967, the group released two more hits, “Gimme Some Lovin” and “I’m a Man,” both of which sold over one million copies, and were awarded gold record status.

It is always fun to look back at the youth of our rock heroes, so we hope you enjoy this somewhat rare and extremely special performance!

+ Gimme Some Lovin Lyrics +

Well, my temperature’s rising and my feet hit the floor
Twenty people knocking ’cause they’re wanting some more
Let me in, baby, I don’t know what you’ve got
But you’d better take it easy, ’cause this place is hot

So glad we made it, so glad we made it
You got to gimme some lovin’, gimme some lovin’
Gimme some lovin’ every day

Well, I feel so good, everything is sounding hot
Better take it easy, ’cause the place is on fire
Been a hard day and I don’t know what to do
Wait a minute, baby, it could happen to you

So glad we made it, so glad we made it
You got to gimme some lovin’, gimme some lovin’
Gimme some lovin’ every day

Well, I feel so good, everybody’s getting higher
Better take it easy, ’cause the place is on fire
Been a hard day, nothing went too good
Now I’m gonna relax, honey, everybody should

So glad we made it, so glad we made it
You got to gimme some lovin’, gimme some lovin’
Gimme some lovin’ every day
