Neil Young and Crazy Horse Announce “Early Daze” 1969 Unreleased Collection

Neil Young and Crazy Horse have unveiled Early Daze, a treasure trove of predominantly unheard tracks dating back to 1969.

Scheduled for release on June 28, this 10-track compilation offers a glimpse into the genesis of Young and Crazy Horse’s musical collaboration. Drawing from their seminal works like “Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere” and Young’s solo endeavors, including “After the Gold Rush” and “Deja Vu” with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Early Daze promises to be a nostalgic journey for fans.

One of the featured songs, “Everybody’s Alone,” showcases a distinctive mix different from its appearance in the 2009 Neil Young – Archives Vol. I, adding an intriguing layer to the collection.

In 1969, Neil Young joined forces with Crazy Horse, marking a pivotal moment in his career post-Buffalo Springfield’s dissolution. With guitarist Danny Whitten, drummer Ralph Molina, bassist Billy Talbot, and keyboardist Jack Nitzsche, Crazy Horse laid the foundation for Young’s musical exploration during this period.

Early Daze will be accessible across various formats, including CD, vinyl, and digital platforms, offering fans the opportunity to delve into these rare recordings firsthand.

The album boasts a mix of familiar tracks like “Dance Dance Dance” and “Cinnamon Girl,” the latter featuring its original 7″ mono mix from 1970, complete with a unique guitar outro absent from the album version. However, the real gems lie in the previously unreleased versions of classics like “Winterlong,” “Wonderin’,” and “Helpless,” alongside an alternate vocal rendition of “Down by the River.”

Other tracks included in the album include the unreleased versions of “Come On Baby Let’s Go Downtown” and “Look At All The Things”, plus the unreleased stereo mix of “Birds.”

As fans eagerly anticipate the compilation release, it promises to be a captivating journey through Neil Young and Crazy Horse’s formative years, offering a fresh perspective on their timeless musical legacy.
