ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons released his own take on James Lord Pierpont’s 1857 “Jingle Bells.” This Christmas single is titled “Jingle Bell Blues”. He tweaked the original lyrics a bit and even referenced “bells on hot rods” and a “drop top sled.”

It’s available as a digital download and as a translucent red vinyl 7″ single, which has a large, jukebox-friendly center hole. Gibbons shared that the single is “at its essence, a juke box record” and “mixed with that in mind.”

“Around Christmas, it always seems that there are five to ten holiday selections listed in the lower right corner of a typical juke box in a typical juke joint, the song titles and artist names printed on wreath-bedecked title strips,” Gibbons said in a statement. “Our hope is for Jingle Bell Blues to be one of those records.”

“Bing Crosby, David Bowie, Elvis, Brenda Lee, Jose Feliciano, Otis Redding, Mariah Carey, Nat King Cole, Gene Autry, and not forgetting Adam Sandler, need some company,” he added, “and we’d be thrilled to provide it in the spirit of the season.”

The vinyl format is available for preorder now, and shipping starts on December.

Gibbons released his third solo studio album, “Hardware”, earlier this year.
