Actual Band On the Run!

First off, I don’t know anyone who doesn’t sing in the car on their morning/evening commutes. However, this is the first time I’ve seen a full band doing an actual performance in their van while racing down the highway! Nicki Bluhm and The Gramblers are a 6-piece band from California and in this performance, they are absolutely amazing as they perform the iconic ‘Band On The Run’, made famous by Paul McCartney and Wings.

The band became more widely known after “Van Sessions” videos, where the band performs cover songs in a tour van while driving between gigs, and became a surprise viral hit in March 2012. Their cover of the Hall & Oates song I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do) was viewed over a million times the week of its release.

The band has gained celebrity fans like Cameron Crowe, Ryan Adams, Melissa Etheridge and even John Oates and Daryl Hall themselves!

I was already a huge fan of ‘Band On The Run’, but I love the direction that Nicki Bluhm and The Gramblers took it in. It’s true to the original version without losing the folk influence of the band covering it, and singer Nicki Bluhm’s voice is an awesome contrast to the acoustic guitars playing behind her.
