David Lee Roth, famously known as “Diamond Dave,” has had one of the most remarkable careers in rock music. With three decades of success, both as the lead vocalist of Van Halen and as a solo artist, Roth’s impact on the industry is undeniable. His solo albums have earned Gold and Platinum certifications from the RIAA, cementing his status as a rock legend.

However, Roth’s musical accomplishments are only part of his allure. His eccentric and charismatic personality has always captivated fans, making him a unique figure in the rock world. Known for his quirky sense of humor and unpredictable behavior, Roth has been at the center of many humorous and unexpected stories throughout his career.

One of the most memorable tales involves Roth’s decision to insure his genitals, affectionately referred to as his “Little Elvis,” for a staggering $1 million. This unusual move, while surprising, perfectly encapsulates Roth’s offbeat personality and his ability to keep fans entertained both on and off the stage.

During a 2013 interview with the Huffington Post, Roth was asked about the long-standing rumor that he had insured his entire body for $1 million with Lloyd’s of London. While many expected him to dismiss the claim as just another wild rumor, Roth instead revealed that there was some truth to the story—though it wasn’t his whole body that was insured.

Roth explained that after learning that his Van Halen bandmates were insuring their valuable body parts—such as Eddie Van Halen insuring his fingers—he decided to follow suit in his own unique way. Roth recalled:

“Somebody said we’ll have to insure Edward’s fingers because he’s going to be using those a lot on the road.
“And Alex Van Halen’s elbows, because drummers use their elbows a lot. And I said, what about Little Elvis? We’re gonna be using him a lot.”

Roth’s decision to ensure his “Little Elvis” just shows how unique his personality is and how fans also appreciate his ability to blend sincerity with humor. In true Diamond Dave fashion, this tale remains one of the most entertaining anecdotes in rock history.
