Lars Ulrich‘s sons and their band Taipei Houston were featured on 101 X-Session for an Austin radio station. Taipei Houston is composed of 23-year-old Myles on drums, and 20-year-old Layne Ulrich on vocals and bass.
The band performed three songs, “As The Sun Sets”, “The Middle”, and “Drop Song.” Their first gig happened in September 2021, when they opened for Earth’s Dylan Carlson at Alex’s Bar in Long Beach, California. While, on May 16, they will be performing at their first-ever headline show at the Camden Assembly in London.
However, the Ulrich brothers aren’t the only Metallica offspring to follow his father’s footsteps. Lead singer James Hetfield’s son, Castor Hetfield, is in the band Bastardane, while bassist Robert Trujillo’s son Tye plays bass for the band OTTTO.
Last December, Taipei Houston, Bastardane, and OTTTO performed as part of Metallica’s 40th anniversary celebration in San Francisco. In May, Bastardane and OTTO will once again share the stage with Metallica as the opening act at the BottleRock Festival in Napa. Their dads will be headlining the upcoming show.
Watch Taipe Houston’s recent performance below. Some of the comments read:
“Came here as a curious Metallica fan, but one who was also a 90s teen/legal adult who would dig this shit as much then as he did today…good job, cool grooves, and a rawness as well.”
“its like crazy mixed of Nirvana, LedZeppelin, Soundgarden, Rage Against The Machine, The White Stripes, and i liked it”
