7 Year Old Avery Tackles Judas Priest
When I was 7 years old, I think I was struggling with flute lessons. In contrast, 7 year old Avery Molek is dominating YouTube with his drum covers, even channeling Judas Priest drummer Scott Travis with his unbelievable cover of ‘Painkiller’. If you’re a Judas Priest fan or even a metal fan in general, then you know how daunting it is to even attempt to replicate or cover Scott Travis – he’s that good!
However, Avery rose to the challenge and delivered one seriously amazing performance of this Judas Priest classic.
For 7 years old, Avery is incredibly precise; he’s been drumming since he was 2 years old and according to his mom, Avery plays entirely by ear and fills in with what he’s learned from his private drum lessons.
I can’t believe he’s able to nail the double bass parts so cleanly – there are drummers twice his age that still struggle with it!
“When he was 2 we did what every parent does, you go to Toys R’ Us and buy your child an instrument. We bought him drums and a guitar and he gravitated to the drums. It wasn’t long before he started getting the feel of the beats of songs and then he just kept progressing. Just before he turned 4, he played “Mississippi Queen” almost perfectly. I asked him how and he said, ‘Just by listening to it.'” – Father Ed Molek
He’s more than just another YouTube sensation though because he also plays with bands for outdoor concerts and other events.
At heart though, he’s just a regular 7 year old kid who loves to play with his friends and has great taste in metal, thanks to his parents. Great job, Avery – we can’t wait to see the fantastic places your talent will take you! Keep on rockin!
