Tributes from across the rock world have poured in following the death of Brad Arnold, the frontman of 3 Doors Down, who died Saturday (Feb. 7) at age 47 after a battle with stage 4 kidney cancer. Arnold’s death was confirmed earlier in the day by the band through social media, sending shockwaves through the music community and among fans who grew up with his voice on rock radio.

As news spread, musicians who toured alongside Arnold during the height of post-grunge and hard rock in the early 2000s shared memories of his kindness, professionalism, and steady presence on and off the stage.

Fellow Frontmen Share Early Memories

Among the first to speak publicly was Shinedown singer Brent Smith, who posted a video message reflecting on how 3 Doors Down supported his band during its early days. Smith recalled opening for them in 2003, calling the opportunity a turning point.

“You guys were the first band that ever took us out on the road,” Smith said. “Brad was always kind, always encouraging, and always real.” He later added in a caption, “Thank you for the music. Thank you for the songs. Thank you for your love. Thank you for your friendship, and thank you for inspiring us all. May your light shine through all of time, and space forever.”

Alter Bridge also shared a message honoring Arnold’s impact, writing, “Thank you Brad, your friendship was one we will hold close forever. Until we meet again.”

Messages From Touring Peers

Sevendust added a brief but heartfelt note, posting, “Rest now brother. Thank you for all you have given us.” Creed followed with a message of support, writing, “Sending love to the Arnold and 3DD family.” These messages reflected the close ties built through years of touring and shared stages.

Black Stone Cherry remembered Arnold as an early supporter. The band wrote that he was “always such a top notch, class act to us,” noting that he offered encouragement even before they found mainstream success.

Personal Reflections From Friends

Guitarist Mark Tremonti shared a more personal reflection, calling Arnold “one of the kindest people I’ve ever had the privilege of calling my friend.” He continued, “It is absolutely heartbreaking to realize that you’ll never get to perform or just have a laugh with a friend that you grew up with in the music industry.”

Disturbed frontman David Draiman echoed those feelings, writing, “Brad was always a gentleman, a stellar musician, and a good man. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved him.” Producer Howard Benson also paid tribute, saying, “I will always cherish the time we spent together making music and talking about life. RIP Brad.”

A Career That Reached Millions

Arnold co-founded 3 Doors Down in Escatawpa, Mississippi, and became widely known as the voice behind the band’s 2000 breakout single “Kryptonite.” The song reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and helped drive the success of their debut album The Better Life, which achieved multi-platinum status.

The band later earned multiple top 10 albums on the Billboard 200 and remained a steady force on mainstream rock radio throughout the 2000s. In recent years, Arnold spoke openly about his cancer diagnosis, often expressing gratitude for the support he received from fans and fellow musicians while continuing to share updates during his illness.
