A Holiday Song With a Lasting Purpose
Tom Petty’s influence extends far beyond his music. As the holiday season approaches, his daughter Adria Petty reminded fans of the lasting good tied to one of his lesser-known releases: the 1992 track “Christmas All Over Again.” In an Instagram post on Wednesday, Dec. 10, she encouraged listeners to remember the impact behind every play, writing that “every time you play ‘Christmas All Over Again,’ remember it is generating funds for the Special Olympics.”
Adria explained that her father “donated all of his revenue from the track, in perpetuity” when he first recorded it more than three decades ago. Because of that decision, she said, the song “has been supporting their mission for decades” and continues to generate meaningful contributions each holiday season.
A Pattern of Quiet Generosity
Reflecting on her father’s legacy, Adria said, “He did a lot of stuff like that,” referring to his long track record of charitable choices. Tom Petty died in 2017 at age 66 following an accidental overdose, but his commitment to helping others has remained central to how his family manages his work.
According to Adria, Petty’s generosity wasn’t limited to a single song. “You may not realize this, but almost everything you buy in the Tom Petty store also helps us support charities that would have resonated with our father,” she shared, noting that the proceeds have quietly supported multiple organizations.
She added that these efforts have allowed the family to make “sizable donations” to groups such as food banks, animal rescues, reproductive healthcare organizations and a wide range of other causes. Each reflects an area Petty cared about during his lifetime.

Fans Help Continue Petty’s Legacy
Adria also revealed the scale of the support generated since the family began focusing on charitable initiatives connected to her father’s brand. “After 8 very eventful years, you’ve helped us give back over a million dollars worth of support to Americans in need, which blows our minds. I wish my dad could see it,” she wrote, expressing gratitude to the community that continues to honor his work.
She pointed to a message that guided much of Petty’s life: “Our dad taught us there is so much good in the world to amplify. Joy takes up space and becomes contagious. Just like listening to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.”
Adria ended her message with a warm note: “We wish you so much joy this holiday season. Thank you for helping us give back while remembering our wonderful dad. We are honored to be in this community with you.”
