Tom Hamilton, the bassist for Aerosmith, has provided an update on the health of singer Steven Tyler after the singer suffered a vocal injury during the band’s final Peace Out tour. After only three gigs, Tyler suffered a cracked larynx, ending the much-anticipated tour that had started in September 2023. Aerosmith announced their retirement from touring and canceled all dates due to ongoing problems with Tyler’s recuperation, even though they had rescheduled the tour for 2024.

In a recent interview, Hamilton expressed optimism about Tyler’s progress. “Steven’s healing process is going really, really well,” he shared. “But it goes at its own pace.”

Will Aerosmith Take the Stage Again?

Hamilton kept fan expectations in check when discussing the band’s future. “Maybe Aerosmith will do something in the future, but it’s a big ‘if,’” he explained. “The last thing I want to do is push Steven in that direction. If we do anything, it would come from him.”

Earlier, in August, Hamilton hinted the band might find a way to carry on in some capacity, though he ruled out touring or bringing in a new singer. He also dismissed the idea of a virtual lineup, emphasizing that any decision would need to align with the band’s legacy.

Hamilton Moves Forward with Close Enemies

While Aerosmith’s future remains uncertain, Hamilton is staying busy with his new band, Close Enemies. The group features his bass tech Trace Foster, guitarist Peter Stroud – a longtime member of Sheryl Crow’s band – and drummer Tony Brock, who has toured with Rod Stewart.

For now, Aerosmith fans can take comfort in knowing Tyler is healing, even if it’s unclear what’s next for the legendary band. As Hamilton put it, any future for Aerosmith will be guided by Tyler’s recovery and readiness. We’re sure fans can’t wait to have this iconic back on stage soon.
