Ticketmaster Has Been Hacked

via ABC News / Youtube

Ticketmaster has officially confirmed a breach in their system, affecting thousands of customers. Here’s what you need to know about the recent data hack.

Fans on social media began sharing screenshots of an email from Ticketmaster alerting them to a “data security incident.” The email detailed what happened, what information was compromised, the steps Ticketmaster has taken, and what actions customers should take.

Ticketmaster also published a document on their website with similar information provided in the email.

Ticketmaster’s Database Compromised by Third-Party Hackers

According to Ticketmaster’s statement, the breach involved “unauthorized activity on an isolated cloud database hosted by a third-party data services provider.” They assured customers that their online accounts remain secure for regular use.

The hackers accessed “limited personal information” of customers who purchased tickets for North American events. This information includes contact details (email and phone number), credit card information, and other personal data.

Ticketmaster sent the notification email to individuals who might have been affected by the hack, which is attributed to a group called ShinyHunters, according to USA Today. Although Ticketmaster didn’t specify the exact number of affected customers, they stated it was over 1,000. However, a June report by NPR mentioned that the hackers claimed to have stolen 1.3 terabytes of data, including information from 560 million customers.

Ticketmaster’s Response to the Data Breach

Ticketmaster has been investigating the breach and hasn’t found any further unauthorized activity. The company is collaborating with law enforcement, credit card companies, and banks to address the situation.

To support affected customers, Ticketmaster is offering a free 12-month identity monitoring service and urges everyone to report any suspicious activity on their credit card and bank accounts.

Fans Respond to Ticketmaster Hack

Understandably, affected customers are concerned. One social media post summed up the frustration:

“Well, y’all, Ticketmaster got hacked… First they collude to corner the ticket market, outrageous fees, and anti-competitive behavior, and now they get your data stolen.”

Ticketmaster’s response aims to reassure customers and mitigate the damage, but the incident has undoubtedly shaken the trust of many fans.
