Born To Be Wild

If you haven’t heard of Grammy Award-winning vocal group Pentatonix yet, you are definitely missing out on one of or possibly THE greatest modern a cappella group ever. Covering Steppenwolf’s “Born To Be Wild” with ONLY THEIR MOUTHS, no instruments, they blow the crowd away and you, of course.

“Heavy metal thunder, racin’ with the wind and the feelin’ that I’m under…”

Most people know that “Born To Be Wild” coined the phrase heavy metal from the lyric “heavy metal thunder” in the song, but Pentatonix has redefined the limits of this incredible and classic rock song by simplifying its core and meaning using only their voices. We will always be obsessed with musical instruments, that will never change, however, this group seriously does an incredible job of making them superfluous and it’s almost scary.

Interesting Fact: This was written by Mars Bonfire, which is the stage name of Dennis Edmonton. He wasn’t a member of Steppenwolf, but his brother Jerry was the band’s drummer. Bonfire wrote a few other songs for Steppenwolf as well, including “Ride With Me” and “Tenderness.”

You may be hesitant to the more futuristic approach that this group gives the classic, however, you cannot deny that these are some seriously talented individuals that sound absolutely stunning together. Enjoy this wonderful live performance of Pentatonix and share on!

+ Born To Be Wild Lyrics +

Get your motor runnin’
Head out on the highway
Lookin’ for adventure
And whatever comes our way
Yeah Darlin’ go make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space

I like smoke and lightning
Heavy metal thunder
Racin’ with the wind
And the feelin’ that I’m under
Yeah Darlin’ go make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space

Like a true nature’s child
We were born, born to be wild
We can climb so high
I never want to die

Born to be wild
Born to be wild
