The Crowd Loses Its Mind When The Zombies Play, “She’s Not There” In 1965

The Crowd Loses Its Mind When The Zombies Play, “She’s Not There” In 1965 | Society Of Rock Videos

No One Told Us How Incredible This Performance Was!

While many bands at the height of the British Invasion were duking it out with the same brand of easy to swallow, almost Beatlesque approach to rock and roll, dark horses The Zombies soared their way past the competition, and for good reason – they were different. ‘She’s Not There’ debuted in 1964 and was a departure from anything else on Top 40 radio; singer Colin Blunstone’s smoky, breathy vocals combined with the song’s jazzy, almost dark feel made for one of the year’s biggest hits to date, and teenagers loved The Zombies’ unique approach to rock music.

This 1965 performance features a chorus of screaming girls, cheering excitedly when members of The Zombies are introduced and with the performance that followed…can you blame them?

Fun Fact: ‘She’s Not There’ was later covered in 1977 by Santana, whose rendition proved to be a major hit for the band.

Few bands know how to set a mood, but The Zombies have it down to an absolute art in this performance! From the cool, disinterested beauties draped around the stage to the band trying to appeal to the audience in this song about a love gone horribly, horribly wrong, the band sold this performance of ‘She’s Not There’ – it’s jazzy without being too adult, but it’s still catchy enough to leave you singing along.

+ She’s Not There lyrics +

Well, no one told me about her
The way she lied
Well, no one told me about her
How many people cried

But it’s too late to say you’re sorry
How would I know, why should I care?
Please don’t bother trying to find her
She’s not there

Well, let me tell you ’bout the way she looked
The way she acts and the color of her hair
Her voice was soft and cool, her eyes were clear and bright
But she’s not there

Well, no one told me about her
What could I do?
Well, no one told me about her
Though they all knew

But it’s too late to say you’re sorry
How would I know, why should I care?
Please don’t bother trying to find her
She’s not there

Well, let me tell you about the way she looked
The way she acts and the color of her hair
Her voice was soft and cool, her eyes were clear and bright
But she’s not there

But it’s too late to say you’re sorry
How would I know, why should I care?
Please don’t bother trying to find her
She’s not there

Well, let me tell you about the way she looked
The way she acts and the color of her hair
Her voice was soft and cool, her eyes were clear and bright
But she’s not there
