Few bands have rocked the world as hard as Kiss. But even their biggest fans can admit that some of their lyrics leave a lot to be desired. Kiss is known for their bold makeup, wild stage antics, and music that’s heavy on attitude. Sometimes, though, their lyrics venture into territory that’s more awkward than awesome.

If you need a chuckle, dive into this list of seven Kiss lyrics that just didn’t quite hit the mark. Here’s a rundown of some of the band’s most unintentionally hilarious lines. Let’s get into it!

“Uh! All Night” (Asylum – 1985)
Sample Lyric: “Well we work all day / And we don’t know why / Well there’s just one thing that money can’t buy / When you’re body’s starved, feed your appetite / When you work all day you gotta Uh! all night.”

Starting off the list is “Uh! All Night,” a song where the “Uh!” chorus seems to go on forever. Kiss is clearly encouraging fans to let loose after a hard day’s work, but the repeated “Uh!” has led to more laughs than motivation. Imagine a music video packed with rows of beds on wheels, flashing lights, and blonde dancers in formation. It’s no wonder the lyrics became infamous!

“Spit” (Revenge – 1992)
Sample Lyric: “Hot damn and lord above, I want a lotta woman with a lot of love / Well thin is in but it’s plain to see / It don’t mean spit to me / I need big hips, sweet lips / Make a man out of me / The bigger the cushion, the better the pushin’ – most definitely.”

With “Spit,” Kiss tries to strike a balance between a sense of humor and a message on beauty standards. Borrowing a line from Spinal Tap’s “Big Bottom,” they celebrate women who don’t fit the typical mold. But lines like “The bigger the cushion, the better the pushin’” walk the line between silly and downright cringe-worthy. Kiss may have meant well, but it’s a bit hard to take them seriously here.

“(You Make Me) Rock Hard” (Smashes, Thrashes & Hits – 1988)
Sample Lyric: “You make me sweat, you turn me ’round / You get me up, you never let me down / You make rock hard, baby all night / Love’s like a glove and it fits just right.”

Kiss was no stranger to, let’s say, “passionate” metaphors, but sometimes they went overboard. In this track, Paul Stanley dives deep into the similes, and by the end, listeners may wish he’d taken a gentler approach. His line “Love’s like a glove and it fits just right” is certainly…creative. If the lyrics aren’t enough, imagine Stanley singing this while suspended on a trapeze. Now that’s commitment!

“Fits Like a Glove” (Lick It Up – 1983)
Sample Lyric: “Cause when I go through her, it’s just like a hot knife through butter / Ooh yeah / Baby, baby, guess you win the prize / Maybe, baby, where the sun never shines.”

Not much gets more awkward than this! In “Fits Like a Glove,” Gene Simmons gives us some of the band’s most eyebrow-raising lines. The “hot knife through butter” comparison definitely leaves an impression, but probably not the one they were aiming for. Even Simmons’ dramatic live performances, which extend the lines with extra emphasis and grunts, aren’t enough to save this song from its fate on this list.

“Let’s Put the X in Sex” (Smashes, Thrashes & Hits – 1988)
Sample Lyric: “She said she knew my secrets / But I didn’t have a clue / Then I saw those black lace panties and I knew that it was you / Baby let’s put the X in sex / Love’s like a muscle and you make me want to flex.”

Kiss goes full soap opera in “Let’s Put the X in Sex,” pairing lines about lingerie with calls for romance. This song feels like it was plucked straight from a rock ‘n’ roll soap opera, complete with cheesy metaphors like “Love’s like a muscle.” Fans can only imagine what Kiss was thinking while writing this one—either way, it has sparked plenty of laughs. The attempt to recreate a “Robert Palmer” vibe didn’t quite work, but it left a memorable legacy.

“Burn Bitch Burn” (Animalize – 1984)
Sample Lyric: “Oh babe, I wanna put my log in your fireplace.”

“Burn Bitch Burn” is Kiss at their most eyebrow-raising. As if the title isn’t shocking enough, the lyrics take it up another notch. The “fireplace” line is so blunt that it almost seems like a parody. One fan recalls this being a favorite among family for laughs, as they can’t get through any scene involving a fire pit without jokingly quoting the line. It’s a line that’s unforgettable—but maybe not for the right reasons!

“Just a Boy” (Music from ‘The Elder’ – 1981)
Sample Lyric: “Who steers the ship through the stormy sea? / If hope is lost, then so are we / While some eyes search for one to guide us / Some are staring at me / But I’m no hero / Though I wish I could be / For I am just a boy / Too young to be sailing.”

“Just a Boy” is a departure from Kiss’s usual themes of love, sex, and rock. Here, they’re tackling deeper themes of fear and responsibility—but the delivery is so over-the-top that it borders on theatrical melodrama. For some fans, this song is proof that perhaps Kiss should’ve stuck with their rock and roll themes instead of attempting an introspective ballad.

Bonus Round: “I Just Wanna” (Revenge – 1992)
Sample Lyric: “I don’t want a romance, I just want to dance, I just want to for, I just want to for, I just want to forget you.”

“I Just Wanna” is a song where Paul Stanley, for one heated moment, makes fans think he’s singing something a lot more explicit. While it’s meant to be innocent, with Stanley singing “I just want to forget you,” the delivery got fans—and a few parents—wondering what they were really hearing. This one’s just a bit of pure Kiss mischief, taking a catchy chorus to the edge and letting fans fill in the blanks.
