David Lee Roth lived the typical rockstar lifestyle. During Van Halen’s heyday, there was no shortage of parties, women, and drugs. They were at the peak of their career and so hedonism was just par for the course. And as for Diamond Dave, let’s just say he enjoyed every minute of his fame.

And even though there was no internet or social media back then, crazy stories about Roth’s life and career still made the rounds. From paying roadies to find him groupies and attempting to insure his “little Dave” for one million dollars to food fights and hijacking their photo session – he’s quite the rockstar, to be honest.

Check out some of the wild stuff he did below.

He once told The Guardian, “I was a surgical tech right out of high school, I sold clothes; I shovelled shit at a horse stable for years. I’ve been rich and I’ve been poor. Rich is better. Totally better. The job we have is a privilege… Even at your worst moments, there’s a whole lot of Shakespeare going on. How can you not appreciate it? At your lonesomest, most catastrophic, it’s still pretty cinematic.”

These would be great stories to tell grandkids… or not.
