Dave Davies of The Kinks expressed dismay upon discovering his 1990 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame award up for sale on eBay, with an asking price of $12,500, prompting what he described as a “Storage Wars moment” at his expense.
“This is a rare and highly collectible award honoring David Davies of The Kinks,” read the listing, emphasizing its unique status in music memorabilia. The trophy, touted as a conversation piece for any music enthusiast, was purportedly acquired from a storage unit after Dave Davies allegedly failed to keep up with storage fees.
Speaking candidly, Davies revealed to X that he had lost track of the award many years ago, speculating it might have happened during his recovery from a 2004 stroke. “I didn’t know where it was. If the person bought it at a storage unit it may have been around the time of my 2004 stroke, when I was incapacitated,” he shared. Reflecting on the situation, he expressed sadness over the auction, lamenting the lack of contact regarding its sale.

Despite his initial shock, Davies and his team reached out to the seller in hopes of resolving the issue without having to pay the steep price tag. “I don’t want to have to pay 12 grand to get my own award back. But maybe we can work something out more reasonable,” Davies stated through his representatives.
Fortunately, the auction was terminated early by the seller, who subsequently communicated a willingness to negotiate directly with Davies. An individual sharing the seller’s username on X extended an olive branch, suggesting they find a mutually agreeable solution.
Davies is optimistic about reclaiming his cherished Rock and Roll Hall of Fame award under more favorable circumstances.
