The Black Crowes have released two new songs, giving fans their first fresh material since 2023. The tracks include the lead single “Profane Prophecy” and a second song titled “Pharmacy Chronicles.” Both songs serve as an early look at the band’s next studio album and continue the momentum they rebuilt over the past year.

The new recordings were produced by Jay Joyce, who also worked with the band on Happiness Bastards. The upcoming album, A Pound of Feathers, is scheduled for release on March 13. The two songs reflect a band that has settled into a steady creative rhythm while still leaving room for change in how the music is made.

A Different Way of Making the Record

Guitarist Rich Robinson says the process behind A Pound of Feathers came together naturally. Reflecting on the time after Happiness Bastards, he explained how writing and collaboration flowed without pressure. “We just kind of went in and did it. It felt natural [and] great. Working with Jay [on Happiness Bastards] was amazing, and it was all really cool,” Robinson told UCR.

He also described how songs usually begin between him and his brother. “But, you know, I had written those songs over a couple of years, so I sent Chris [Robinson], like 40 songs. He chooses what he wants to work on and then we just kind of get together.” That approach has been part of the band’s dynamic for years.

Letting the Studio Shape the Sound

This time, the band changed how they used studio time. Robinson said they arrived with fewer finished ideas and allowed recordings to develop as they went. “We had less time, which I like, because we decided to use the studio as a writing tool,” he explained. “Instead of having things that were a little more solidified, we went in and I had my parts — but we went in [a little bit] less prepared, but more using the studio as a tool.”

He added that the faster pace helped avoid overthinking. “You’re kind of working on the fly and you don’t have time to overthink things, which is a killer,” Robinson said. “if you’re too concerned about it, or you’re overthinking all these things, It kind of ruins it for everyone,. So this time, we just went in, we did it, and it came out great. We’re really happy with it.”

Touring Plans and What Comes Next

The Black Crowes will return to the stage shortly after the album release. Their tour begins April 2 in Melbourne, Australia, with 12 headlining dates currently scheduled. The shows are part of a busy touring year that will keep the band on the road well into 2026.

They will also open for Guns N’ Roses on select dates. Robinson said the pairing feels natural. “That’s going to be great. I can’t wait,” he said. “You know we did [play with] Slash at FireAid and it was so much fun. We’ve been in each other’s sphere, for such a long time. They’re a phenomenal American rock and roll band — one of the last ones, you know what I mean? I think for them and us to be on the same bill is going to be so much fun.”
