The Biggest Shortlived Bands Ever

There are a lot of reasons why a band disbands after a short period of time such as burnout, conflicts, passing of a bandmate, and different individual preferences to name some. In no particular order, we listed down some of the most popular and influential bands that had relatively short careers.

1. Nirvana
Remarkably known for its 1991 album Nevermind, the band disbanded after the passing of their frontman Kurt Cobain who committed suicide in 1994. They were only active from 1987 through 1994 and was a mainstream act from 1991 through 1994.

2. The Doors
Similar to Nirvana, they disbanded after its frontman died at the age of 27. Jim Morrison died after his seven year career with The Doors. Although the band attempted to continue without him, they officially disbanded after two years because they found it difficult to do so.

3. The Beatles
Although the band became so popular that the term “Beatlemania” was created to describe the effect that those four musicians had on the world, they only lasted for 10 years. Due to numerous disagreements and disputes, the band called it quits and all four pursued solo careers.

4. Sex Pistols
The band only lasted for two and a half years in their initial career despite being a major player on the punk scene. The band formed tension which eventually led to fighting, and their demise.

5. The Jimi Hendrix Experience
When its frontman Jimi Hendrix passed away in 1970 at the age of 27, The Jimi Hendrix Experience officially disbanded. Reports have shown that Hendrix aspirated his own vomit and died of asphyxia while intoxicated with barbiturates.

6. Cream
The band was only together from 1966 to 1968. Known for their unique musical skills, the band disbanded after tensions between Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce sparked up.
