Recently, a UK-based financial comparison services company analyzed the government data provided by the US regarding baby names officially recorded in 2021. The company provided a Top 10 list, in which, some of this is going to be open to interpretation about which musician the name came from.

The data is broken down by the most common gender related to the name which may slightly under-represent the artist’s influence. So basically this study revealed the most popular baby names inspired by musicians in the US. Surprisingly, the iconic rock legend Jimi Hendrix is included.

1. Camila – A total of 8,005 girl babies found. The name became more popular due to the pop singer Camila Cabello.

2. Willow – A total of 5,143 girl babies found. The study said that it was Will and Jada Pinkett Smith’s daughter that has actually caused the name to be on the rise.

3. Ariana – A total of 2,967 girl babies found. The Italian name which means “most holy” also became popular due to Ariana Grande.

4. Taylor – A total of 1,533 girl babies found. So obviously since it was used to name girl babies, Taylor Swift is considered to be the inspiration here, not the late great Taylor Hawkins.

5. Selena – A total of 1,443 girl babies found. Presumably it was because of the pop star Selena Gomez, but the inspiration can be split. Some says that it maybe because of the popularity of “Queen of Tejano music,” singularly known as Selena.

6. Hendrix – A total of 1,243 boy babies found. The study says the surname of Jimi Hendrix became so trendy because it ends with the letter “x”.

7. Zayn – A total of 1,220 boy babies found. Of course it came from Zayn, the former member of the boyband One Direction.

8. Prince – About 969 boy babies found. In this one, we are not just completely sure if it’s from “Purple Rain” Prince or the heavy metal madman “Prince of Darkness” Ozzy Osbourne.

9. Mariah – About 937 girl babies found. The name maybe over-exposed, but yes it’s the singer Mariah Carey.

10. Travis – About 842 boy babies found. Maybe it was because of the rapper Travis Scott, but it could be the Blink-182 drummer/married-to-a-Kardashian Travis Barker.

There is about 3.6 million babies born in the US in 2021 according to the CDC. So it’s not like every kid is named Camila or Hendrix for example. Another findings is that if it is true that all these kids were inspired by musicians, parents are more likely to name their daughters after musicians than their sons.

Finally, the most popular boy baby name in 2021 was Liam. 20,272 baby boys (and 30 baby girls) were named as Liam last year. Could it be the Oasis rock star Liam Gallagher or the former One Direction member?
