Band Cites Extreme Weather for Cancellation

The Steve Miller Band has canceled all of their upcoming tour dates for 2025, including their scheduled appearance at the New York State Fair. The group announced the news on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “You can blame it on the weather…The tour is cancelled,” and urged fans to “always trust your instincts.”

They pointed to extreme weather concerns as the reason for canceling. “The combination of extreme heat, unpredictable flooding, tornadoes, hurricanes and massive forest fires makes these risks for you our audience, the band and the crew unacceptable,” the post explained. The message did not say if the dates would be rescheduled.

Fair Performance Pulled Ten Years After Record-Setting Show

The band was set to perform at Suburban Park on Thursday, August 21. This would have marked a return to the same fair where, ten years ago, they broke an attendance record. Nearly 37,000 people came to see them at Chevy Court, surpassing Bruno Mars’ 2011 performance.

That day, fans filled both sides of the street, stretching all the way to the former NewsChannel 9 booth near the dairy products building. Their strong fan base in the area made the concert one of the most highly anticipated events of this year’s fair.

Other Canceled Shows and Possible Impact

Besides the New York State Fair, scheduled stops in Bethel, Wantagh, and Salamanca were also affected. It’s unclear what the fair organizers plan to do in response or whether they will replace the canceled slot with another act.

NewsChannel 9 has stated they will continue to report on any updates about the concert lineup or changes to the fair schedule. Fans are still hopeful for news of a replacement act.

Updated NYS Fair Lineup Without Steve Miller Band

With the Steve Miller Band now off the schedule, the fair still features a full lineup of artists. A few examples include Cheap Trick on August 21, Jessie Murph on August 22, O.A.R. on August 23, Busta Rhymes on August 24, and Lynyrd Skynyrd on August 28. Tribute acts for ABBA, Bon Jovi, Fleetwood Mac, and Bruno Mars also appear throughout the week.

Though the cancellation is disappointing, there are still many concerts lined up to draw in the crowds. The Steve Miller Band left fans with a message: “Don’t know where, don’t know when…We hope to see you all again.”
