The One Thing We All Wanted To Happen… May Not Be Happening
In 1993, Ritchie Blackmore stepped down as lead guitarist for Deep Purple and went on to pursue a career in renaissance music. Though he has been rather successful in said field, fans of Deep Purple have since then been waiting and hoping for a reunion of Deep Purple and Ritchie Blackmore.
Fans of both Ritchie and Deep Purple were given a glimpse of hope earlier this month when Ritchie Blackmore revealed in an interview that he would be open to rejoining the band for one last performance. He said after hearing that Deep Purple were rumored to be retiring soon.
As you’d expect, the gentlemen in Deep Purple caught wind of this and immediately reached out to Ritchie Blackmore. Unfortunately, according bassist Glenn Hughes, Ritchie Blackmore has been unreachable.
The band was looking to reunite the surviving members of what’s called the Mark III lineup which consisted of Glenn Hughes, David Coverdale, and of course Ritchie Blackmore, mainly. However, according to Glenn, that may no longer be a possibility.
As of right now, this is certainly not a definite ‘no’ from Ritchie Blackmore, not by a long-shot, but given that Ritchie said he was open to the reunion and is now ‘unreachable’ definitely looks like he’s had a change of heart, but we’ll just have to wait and see. Let’s hope for the best!
