Rocketman Star Belts 1972 Elton John Classic

Thanks to movie magic and a little makeup, Rocketman star Taron Egerton is a dead ringer for Elton John – but can he sing like Elton?

After today, I think we can all agree that the answer is yes.

The 29-year-old actor appeared in a brand new teaser for the Elton John biopic, this time answering the resounding question as to whether or not he’s up for the challenge of singing John’s songs with a brief performance of “Tiny Dancer”.

In case you’re wondering, we’re not the only ones in love with Egerton’s performance.

Giles Martin, producer and son of 5th Beatle George Martin, revealed that not only does Elton John approve of the way he’s being portrayed by Taron Egerton in Rocketman – he thinks he might be the best voice to ever cover his songs!

“Elton said, ‘I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone sing my songs better than Taron,'” says Martin. “The great thing about Elton is, he wants Taron’s interpretations of his songs.”

Amazing, right?

The best part is that this isn’t even the first time Taron Egerton has tackled Elton John tunes for a movie. In 2016, he provided the voice for Johnny in the hit animated film Sing and belted out John’s power jam “I’m Still Standing,” absolutely crushing this 1983 classic for a brand new generation hearing it for the first time.

If Taron’s performance as Elton John proves to be as good as we believe it will be, then Rami Malek better look out – we might have another contender for the highest grossing biopic on our hands!
