Recently, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame CEO and President, Greg Harris, discussed the recently announced 2023 nominations, which included the legendary heavy metal band Iron Maiden.

The UK band, eligible since 2005, is up for inclusion alongside Soundgarden, The White Stripes, Rage Against the Machine, Sheryl Crow, Willie Nelson, Warren Zevon, and others after receiving their second nomination in three years. In an interview, Harris stated:

“It’s a fantastic year. This class of fourteen for consideration for induction in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to be the 2023 class is huge. Eight of them, it’s their first time ever nominated and a few of them are back for a second, third, or fourth, maybe even a fifth nomination.

“It’s just a great group. It underscores the diversity of what we think of as Rock N’ Roll — and really it’s not just one sound, it’s many sounds — it’s an attitude and a spirit.”

As for Maiden, Harris said:

“We have a Pink Floyd wall with the inflatable, so heck yeah. We can put one of those (Eddie masks) in here. It would be exciting… You know, we talked about Warren Zevon, a piano playing, songwriting guy, and then the triple guitar assault of Iron Maiden in the same class. It’s really exciting and really fun now. Maiden was nominated once before, but we’re hopeful that after the success that Judas Priest had last year that Maiden is inducted as well… We’re thrilled that they’re on the ballot.”

The Rock Hall has stated Iron Maiden’s induction would honor both the current lineup, which includes singer Bruce Dickinson, bassist Steve Harris, guitarists Adrian Smith, Dave Murray, and Janick Gers, drummer Nicko McBrain, as well as former members Clive Burr, Paul Di’Anno, and Dennis Stratton, should music industry voters choose Iron Maiden for the Class of 2023.

A global voting body of more than 1,000 musicians, artists, and music historians will receive ballots for the Rock Hall nominees. Consideration is given to an artist’s contribution to music, influence on other musicians, length and breadth of career, the body of work, as well as innovation and superiority in style and technique.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2023 Induction Ceremony will take place this September, but Inductees will be revealed as early as the month of May.
