Morrissey is starting 2026 much like he ended 2025, with more canceled concerts. The former Smiths frontman postponed his first show of the year, which was scheduled for Saturday night in Rancho Mirage, California. The performance was already a makeup date, after being moved from its original Oct. 24, 2025, booking.
The venue, Agua Caliente, shared the reason as “an adverse reaction to a prescription medicine.” No additional details were given about the singer’s condition, and no new date has been announced. The update came shortly before doors were set to open.
A Pattern of Cancellations
The Rancho Mirage change was not the only disruption to Morrissey’s early 2026. His planned Jan. 6 concert in San Diego has also been canceled. A previously announced Jan. 25 appearance in the Dominican Republic was removed from the schedule as well. Reasons for those two cancellations were not announced.
Morrissey has a long history of postponements and cancellations. The WeHeartM website maintains a detailed public list tracking them all. According to the site, it currently documents 402 canceled, postponed, or shortened performances across his career.

Looking at the Numbers
Based on the site’s data, Morrissey canceled 32 of his planned 63 shows in 2025. In 2024, nine of his 23 scheduled concerts did not happen. That results in 43 canceled shows out of 88 planned dates.
A comparison between WeHeartM records and SetList.fm data from 2023 shows a similar pattern. Of his last 12 scheduled shows that year, six took place while six were canceled. Combined, the figures show that 49 of his last 100 scheduled performances did not go forward.
What Comes Next
The reported reasons for past cancellations include extreme exhaustion, lack of label support, injuries within his band, severe sinusitis, and technical problems. Each situation has led to sudden changes for fans.
As Stereogum notes, Morrissey’s next scheduled appearance is set for Jan. 10 in San Antonio. The date is also a makeup show after being postponed from May 8, 2025. The city has not hosted the singer for many years due to past cancellations.
