RARE: Plant’s Pre- Zeppelin “Hey Joe” Cover Is His Best Kept Secret

RARE: Plant’s Pre- Zeppelin “Hey Joe” Cover Is His Best Kept Secret | Society Of Rock Videos

From B to Z

Before the birth of the Led Zeppelin, there was the Band of Joy.

Robert Plant, world famous lead singer of Led Zeppelin, started out back in 67 with drummer John Bonham, Bonzo, in the Band of Joy and covered this amazing Jimi Hendrix tribute of “Hey Joe.

“Uh, hey Joe, I heard you shot your woman down, you shot her down. Uh, hey Joe, I heard you shot you old lady down, you shot her down to the ground. Yeah!”

-The Band of Joy consisted of Chis Brown, Vernon Pereira, Robert Plant, Kevyn Gammond, Paul Lockey, and John Bonham.-

Plant brings his powerhouse, high pitched vocals to the ballad and we just love this hard rock n roll version of this song that has Zeppelin’s sound ALL over it.

Interesting Fact: We are still not sure who wrote this song although the band The Leaves were the first to record it in 1965.

We could honestly listen to Robert all day and hearing him honor one of the greatest rock artists in history before he really made it big, makes us happier than you will ever know.

We love you Robert!

+ Hey Joe Lyrics +

Hey Joe, where you goin’ with that gun of your hand
Hey Joe, I said where you goin’ with that gun in your hand, oh
I’m goin’ down to shoot my old lady
You know I caught her messin’ ’round with another man
Yeah, I’m goin’ down to shoot my old lady
You know I caught her messin’ ’round with another man
Huh! and that ain’t cool
Huh hey hoe, I heard you shot your mamma down
You shot her down now
Hey Joe, I heard you shot your lady down
You shot her down in the ground yeah!
Yeah!
Yes, I did, I shot her
You know I caught her messin’ round messin’ round town
Huh, yes I did I shot her
You know I caught my old lady messin’ ’round town
And I gave her the gun
And I shot her
Alright
Shoot her one more time again baby!
Yeah!
Oh dig it
Oh alright
Hey Joe,
Where you gonna run to now where you gonna go
Hey Joe, I said
Where you gonna run to now where you gonna go
I’m goin’ way down south
Way down to mexico way
Alright
I’m goin’ way down South
Way down where I can be free
Ain’t no one gonna find me
Ain’t no hang-man gonna
He ain’t gonna put a rope around me
You better believe it right now
I gotta go now
Hey, Joe
You better run on down
Goodbye everybody
Hey, hey Joe…
