Rare footage of The Doors – People Are Strange

When you’re strange
Some say that some of the greatest songs are written during tough emotional times–
In this case- Jim Morrison was no exception. He had just penned one of the Doors most successful song in about 10 minutes.
John Densmore explains:
He went to Robby Krieger’s house, and went to Laurel Canyon to watch the sunset. At which time Jim realized he was depressed because “if you’re strange, people are strange.” He then wrote the rest of the lyrics, which were about feeling alienated.
In just one take, Krieger had done the solo, and wrote the rest of the music for the song. “People Are Strange” was a single released in ’67 from their second album, Strange Days, one of my all time favorite records!
Morrison said: “‘Yeah, I feel really good about this one… His eyes were wild with excitement. ‘I scribbled it down as fast as I could. It felt great to be writing again.’ He looked down at the crumpled paper in his hand and sang the chorus in his haunting blues voice.” –John Densmore
+People Are Strange+
People are strange when you’re a stranger
Faces look ugly when you’re alone
Women seem wicked when you’re unwanted
Streets are uneven, when you’re down
When you’re strange
Faces come out of the rain
When you’re strange
No one remembers your name
When you’re strange
When you’re strange
When you’re strange
People are strange when you’re a stranger
Faces look ugly when you’re alone
Women seem wicked when you’re unwanted
Streets are uneven when you’re down
When you’re strange
Faces come out of the rain
When you’re strange
No one remembers your name
When you’re strange
When you’re strange
When you’re strange
When you’re strange
Faces come out of the rain
When you’re strange
No one remembers your name
When you’re strange
When you’re strange
