“I Really Wish I Had Been In The Beatles”
Pink Floyd frontman and lead guitarist David Gilmour has been a busy man lately; recording his new solo album Rattle That Lock, a short tour in support of the album, closing the chapter that is Pink Floyd and apparently, recording Beatles covers! Gilmour outdid himself when he recorded a cover of The Beatles’ ‘Here, There, And Everywhere’; a tender, emotionally charged rendition tinged with the shades of Pink Floyd that still color Gilmour’s guitar playing.
David On The Beatles’ Influence:
“[They] taught me how to play guitar; I learnt everything. The bass parts, the lead, the rhythm, everything. They were fantastic.”
It’s so classically Beatles; David Gilmour does a fantastic job of staying faithful to the spirit of this Revolver classic, but when he launches into a guitar solo that is so textbook Gilmour ‘Here, There, and Everywhere’ goes from a tender ballad to something fiercely majestic. David confesses that he “really wishes” he had been in The Beatles, but we’re glad he wasn’t: the world needed both The Beatles and Pink Floyd, and music wouldn’t have ever been the same again if he’d gone any way but to Pink Floyd!
