Paul Simon shares positive news about his hearing, indicating a gradual return.

In 2023, the renowned singer-songwriter candidly discussed experiencing a significant loss of hearing in his left ear, which hindered his ability to perform live.

Reflecting on the situation, Simon expressed frustration and annoyance at the unexplained condition, hoping for a natural recovery.

However, in a recent update, he reveals a partial restoration of his hearing capability.

Insights from the New York Premiere

During the New York premiere of the docuseries In Restless Dreams: The Music of Paul Simon, Simon disclosed that he can now comfortably engage in singing, playing the guitar, and handling other musical instruments. He added:

“I can hear my voice the way I want it in the context of the music. If there’s a drum or an electric guitar, it’s too loud and I can’t hear my voice. But when I first lost the hearing, I couldn’t get, it threw me off. Everything was coming from this side.”

While his hearing has improved to a satisfactory level for musical performances, Simon acknowledges challenges, particularly with discerning his voice amidst louder instruments like drums or electric guitars.

The docuseries, featuring Simon’s musical journey, is set to premiere in two parts on March 17 and 24, offering an emotional exploration of his extensive career, from iconic performances like the 1981 Central Park concert with Art Garfunkel to the creation of albums like Graceland in 1986 and his latest release, Seven Psalms, in 2023.

Director Alex Gibney emphasizes that the series aims to evoke emotional connections rather than just convey information, capturing the essence of Simon’s music through a blend of moments and memories.
