A Public Response to Rumors

Paul Rodgers surprised fans on Saturday, February 21, when he shared a personal update on social media. The Bad Company frontman addressed rumors about his health and revealed that he had been invited to record with Van Halen.

Rodgers wrote on Facebook, “To squash the rumours… My health is good. I feel fit and strong and I am rehearsing to perform March 2nd at the Adopt the Arts Sound and Vision Awards in Palm Springs.” He then added, “Thanks to Van Halen for inviting me to work on a track with them, but I am in my acoustic, zen phase of life.”

The message confirmed that discussions had taken place about Rodgers joining a new Van Halen recording. It also made clear that he chose not to move forward with the offer.

Alex Van Halen’s Archival Project

Earlier in the week, Alex Van Halen spoke about an upcoming project built from unreleased material. He described it as a “collection of new recordings that were going to be the next [Van Halen] record, and that were stopped because [his brother and the band’s guitarist Eddie Van Halen] didn’t live that long.”

According to Alex, “the drums, the guitar and the bass are already in there,” with bass parts recorded by his nephew, Wolfgang Van Halen, who joined the band in 2007. With former lead singers David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar reportedly not involved due to personal differences, Alex reached out to Rodgers about contributing.

“It was very difficult for him to bring himself to say, ‘No, I can’t. Count me out,” Van Halen said of the founding Bad Company singer. “I respect that.”

Health and Priorities

Rodgers later explained that his decision was not due to illness. In his statement, he stressed that he feels well and is preparing for a live appearance in Palm Springs. Still, he noted that he is currently focused on a quieter style of music and life.

This is not the first time Rodgers has placed health first. In November 2025, when Bad Company was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, he chose not to perform. Rodgers, who has reportedly suffered 11 minor strokes over the past decade, addressed that choice publicly. “At this time I have to prioritize my health,” he explained. “I have no problem signing, it’s the stress of everything else. Thanks for understanding.”

Rodgers’ comments show a singer who remains active but mindful of his limits. While the idea of his voice on a Van Halen track may excite fans, he has made clear that his current focus is balance and well-being rather than high-pressure projects.
