Paul McCartney – “Yesterday” Live

Yes, I Believe In Yesterday Too!
“Yesterday” was first released on August 6, 1965 in the UK. It’s a ballad written by Paul McCartney about a break-up and has been covered for more than 2,000 times. It’s also one of the songs with the most radio plays. Aside from Paul, it was backed by a string quartet which made this a pop song with some classical music elements.
“Well, we all know about Yesterday. I have had so much accolade for Yesterday. That’s Paul’s song and Paul’s baby. Well done. Beautiful – and I never wished I’d written it.” — John Lennon
- The song reached 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100
- Reached number 8 on the UK Singles Chart
This was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame but back then- it wasn’t like The Beatles‘ previous songs and there were those who claimed that it sounded too simple. Nevertheless, it was a global success and still continues to be a well-loved track.
“Yesterday” has two contrasting sections, differing in melody and rhythm, producing a sense of disjunction.
With his historic live performances for this song, this is quite possibly Paul McCartney’s best work.
+Yesterday lyrics below+
Yesterday all my trouble seemed so far away
Now it looks as though they’re here to stay
Oh I believe in yesterday
Suddenly I’m not half the man I used to be
There’s a shadow hanging over me
Oh yesterday game suddenly
Why she had to go I don’t know
She wouldn’t say
I said something wrong, now I long for yesterday
Yesterday, love was such an easy game to play
Now I need a place to hide away
Oh I believe in yesterday
