Paul McCartney Joins Nirvana For ‘Cut Me Some Slack’!
Paul McCartney: One Night In Nirvana!
Dave Grohl is officially the luckiest guy alive: it’s one thing to meet your childhood hero, but it’s another thing entirely to get to write a song with them, jam with them at your studio, and then get onstage and actually perform it with them!
In 2012, the remaining members of Nirvana collaborated with Paul McCartney on a song called ‘Cut Me Some Slack’ and later performed the impromptu jam session live at the 12/12/12 benefit concert.
Though Paul called it a Nirvana reunion, it was he who stole the show! This was a great throwback to some of The Beatles’ edgier material, like ‘Helter Skelter’ and ‘Ticket To Ride’.
‘Cut Me Some Slack’ was an overnight success – Allmusic called it a “tune with an immediate hit [and] melody”, and it won the Grammy award for Best Rock Song in 2014.
I can’t even believe Paul’s performance! At 72, he still commands a stage like no one I’ve ever seen before!
+ Cut Me Some Slack lyrics +
Did your mama, set me free
Oh mama, let me be
Oh mama, watch me run
Mama, I wanna have some fun
Hey mama, don’t let me down
Mama, I want to go to town
If you wanna stick around you gotta cut me some slack
I’m gonna hit the road again and not come back
If you wanna stick around you gotta cut me some slack
I’m gonna hit the road again and not come back
Woo, woo,
Woo, woo
Oh mama, let me be
Mama, won’t you set me free
Mama, mom, ma, mom, ma mom watch me run
Mama watch me run
Come on I just want to have some fun
Yeah set me free, let me be yeah, whoa
