Paul McCartney – “I Will” Live
Your Song Will Fill The Air!
Written by Paul McCartney, “I Will” was recorded by The Beatles on September 16, 1968 and released on November 22, 1968. This folk rock features Paul on the lead vocals and acoustic guitar. It took the band 67 takes for the song and George Harrison did not play during the recording.
“I kept searching for better words and I wrote my own set in the end; very simple words, straight love-song words really. I think they’re quite effective. It’s still one of my favourite melodies that I’ve written. You just occasionally get lucky with a melody and it becomes rather complete and I think this is one of them; quite a complete tune.” — Paul McCartney
The writing took quite since working on the lyrics began in India and it was still unfinished as they started recording it. The best version was during their 65th take where Paul added a vocal bass.
According to Beatles historian Mark Lewisohn, the trio also recorded a song called The Way You Look Tonight, “a short number, the lyric of which was derived almost entirely from I Will”.
It’s fairly easy to remember the words to the song but just imagine the time it took for them to finish everything! Paul McCartney is surely one musical genius!
