The Collection Will Go On Sale Later This Month

Paul McCartney is the latest solo artist to be honored by special stamps – the other two are David Bowie in 2017 and Elton John in 2019. As far as rock bands go, Pink Floyd had a ten-stamp set in 2016 and Queen got theirs in 2020.

The Royal Mail has just unveiled a collection of twelve stamps that celebrate Macca’s solo career – eight of which are album covers (starting with his first solo LP in 1970 and including his 2020 studio effort McCartney III) and four photos of him in the recording studio while he worked on McCartney in 1970, RAM in 1971, McCartney II in 1980 and Flaming Pie in 1997.

Royal Mail’s David Gold said in a statement, “Paul McCartney remains a vital figure at the center of rock and pop, an artist whose legacy is immense but whose work continues to generate popular attention and critical acclaim.”

Royal Mail also called it “a fitting tribute to one of the UK’s much loved and revered musical icons.”

Paul McCartney was involved in the process of selecting which images to use on the stamps. They go on sale on May 28 in a variety of formats but fans can already pre-order today.
